“Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.” Mark 5:19
After calming the storm, a demon possessed man ran to Jesus on the shore. Jesus freed the man from the demons and sent the demons into a herd of pigs. I love what happens next!
There were witnesses who saw the whole event happen!. They saw the demons jolt from the possessed man and go into the pigs. Then the pigs suddenly go out of control, as the demons drove them into waters that caused them to drown. If you can picture this, jaws must have dropped! It was a huge display of Jesus’ power and quite a phenomenon! The witnesses marveled but they were also frightened. They wanted the man to leave the coast and go away. So the man followed Jesus to get into the boat. It was at that moment that Jesus encouraged him to leave and tell his friends about how Jesus had compassion on him and set him free.
The man who was once demon possessed, went into the city of Decapolis. People were astonished as he told his miraculous story. He lifted up the name of Jesus among the people and gave praise for the marvelous thing that Jesus had done for him. Faith grew in people as the news spread of Jesus. Even more people were drawn to Jesus and he did more miracles. Was this all because one man, now free from demons, proclaimed God’s mercy and compassion? Was this break through of faith and miracles among the people because this man was literally evidence of Jesus’ power?
Has God done marvelous things in your life? I encourage you to give him praise, lift up the name of Jesus and share how he has had compassion on you. Your friends will be amazed! Great things happen when the Lord is glorified. Be the “living evidence” by the word of your testimony. Give him praise and proclaim his marvelous works to those around you today. More great things will follow because we continue to give him praise and lift him up, for everyone to hear.
