Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
We know it all too well. You know! It’s that moment that you can’t resist your favorite desert. It tantalizes and teases you and you are so looking forward to that first bite. When you finally take your first bite, you close your eyes while it melts in your mouth and you memorize every ounce of flavor. What a delight!
Psalm 3:8 says “Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” If we could only desire to delight in God and indulge in knowing him more, like we do with our favorite desert. We will know for certain how sweet it is to know him more and more every day.
So how do we “delight” in the Lord? The very beginning of the book of Psalms actually starts us off in the right direction. 1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose DELIGHT is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.
The instruction from this scripture tells us that to delight in him, is to meditate on his word, obey his direction and remove ourselves from the path of the wicked and not to stand [unite or participate] in the way with sinners or hang out with those who mock God.
Your delight in him will do something amazing. He will in turn, delight in you and fill your heart with joy that cannot be measured. Delight in him, remove distractions, crave his sweet presence and indulge in his love today.
